SUNDAY NIGHT MIND DUMP!
Randy Santiago @ Jun 30, 2008 10:14 AM
  • Sunday is . . .  game day . . . impact time . . . evangelism hour . . .resurrection day. . .prime time . . . focal point . . . the super bowl, world cup and world series all rolled in one!  I love Sunday.
  • Attendance was way down...I guess the rising gas prices are not stopping people from traveling. I hate the summer!
  • Ruben was a little short handed on Sunday and yet worship went well...still missed Marcus on the electric guitar....Happy Birthday!
  • Again, where was everybody?  Even those who weren't working fireworks couldn't make it to church! Wonder if they slept in and didn't go to work on Monday?
  • Good to see Pastor Tom's parents who were visiting for a couple of days...Wow does Tom look like his dad.
  • With Pastor Manual closing out the series on Sunday night I decided to unplug.  I’ve always thought that to charge something up it must be plugged in.  However, that is not always true.  Sunday afternnoon I took some time to do the opposite.  No not a nap...what a waste....I sat down by myself and scribbled one question:  “God, what do you want to say to me?” I can’t recall the last time I asked that question and really sought an answer.  My day by myself proved to be one of the most peaceful moments that I can recall.  Did I get all my questions answered?  No.  I got more than answers, I got to be with Jesus.  Isn’t He what we REALLY need anyway.
  • Final Revolutionary throughts:  I want Heart Revolution.  I don't want the loveless vacuum of a character defined by "What I Can't Do" or "What I am Against" or "The Rules I'm Committed To."  I want Heart Revolution. We find this transformation though the acceptance of amazing grace and the discipline of arranging our lives around practices that keep us in "the flow of the Life and Love of the Father." What are the practices you are arranging your life around?  Do they keep you in the flow of the Life and Love of the Father?
  • Next month...superheroes of the bible...I love beginning a new series...can't wait till next Sunday!

SUNDAY NIGHT MIND DUMP
Randy Santiago @ Jun 23, 2008 09:18 AM
Didn't preach in the evening.....good job Lonnie.  His word during the Revolution series was RE:CONCILE!

Ushers tell me we were way up this Sunday....I didn't see it.  Sunday night's have been way down.  I know it is June and people are away on vacation but I’ll blame it on Lonnie anyway.

Has anyone heard the new Journey CD? Everyone is raving about it!

Love meeting all the new people at the door.  All of them enjoying their experience.

Found out this week that Michael Sweet from Stryper is the new lead singer of Boston. Got to check that out too!

Getting excited about our new big idea for July...HEROES!

I hate the new CD from Coldplay. Yes, I said hate. There about two songs I like.

Ran into Clint and Gail at IHOP after service...hate eating alone.

Fireworks stands open this Tuesday....Got the rain we needed now we need the customers to come out and support our youth.

I love First Assembly.  It isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and I think it even scares some people but I love it!

KEEP praying! I love life!

JUST A THOUGHT
Randy Santiago @ Jun 21, 2008 10:18 PM
“The american church is a difficult place to fit in if you want to live out New Testament Christianity. The goals of American Christianity are often a nice marriage, children who don’t swear, and good church attendance. Taking the words of Christ literally and seriously is rarely considered. That’s for the “radicals” who are “unbalanced” and who go “overboard.” Most of us want a balanced life that we can control, that is safe, and that does not involve suffering.”  Think about it!

SUNDAY NIGHT MIND DUMP
Randy Santiago @ Jun 16, 2008 05:42 PM
  • GREAT, I mean GREAT day today!  Dads were ministered to, we had 5 saved, and we got out in plenty of time for families to go eat.
  • Ruben hit a grand slam today.  You can feel the energy in the house when we break out into a little during one of the songs.
  • Our new 8:30 drummer, Leo Esquivel did a great job.  Really into it!
  • Gift give aways really went well on Sunday night.  One of our best ideas to date.
  • Thought it was awesome watching Ish Gonzalez walk up with his grandson to claim first prize, a Brinkman grill.   Tough choking back the tears as we read the letter on why his grandfather is the best dad.  Steaks on the grill this week. Yeah….come on!
  • Went car shopping this weekend. I hate dealing with car salesman. (No offense Bobby)
  • Lonnie and Rhonda are on a little mini vacation this weekend.  Missed them in service.
  • I’ve been reading about the life of David in the bible all week and God is rocking my world! What a great leader but you learn as much from his mistakes as you do this success.
  • It is hot!
  • I’ve been transitioning my leadership lately and while it has me out of my comfort zone, it is needed for us to go the next level. I am called to pastor First Assembly, not be everyone’s friend. I love it when I can be both but some people can’t handle it. I’ve had to wear my “pastor” hat a lot more and I think for the first time ever, I am comfortable with that.
  • Have a GREAT week!

RESTAURANT REVIEW
Randy Santiago @ Jun 13, 2008 06:05 PM
Checked out a couple of new restaurants in Plainview today.  Thought I would give you my EXPERT review:

CHUBBY'S BBQ

Of course if you're sensitive about your weight, the name doesn't lend any comfort.  This is a BBQ and MEXICAN restaurant that has some seating outside (yeah that's what we want to do in 105 degree weather) but basically it's carryout.  The menu is pretty basic:  BBQ sandwhiches and plates.   A Mexican plate which consists of 2 enchiladas, taco, beans and rice for $5.95, and of course burgers.  From the servers licking their fingers, and not wearing gloves to microwaving my mexican plate, this place was needless to say SCARY!  I'm non confrontational so I didn't say anything, but the food never made it to our table (Ricky's smiling) and should never make it your's either.  YUCK!

BEEF BOWL

Ohana beef bowl is here.  This restaurant is located at the old Taco Bell and is the 2nd try by our friends at Tokyo to branch out.  We all remember their first attempt, a major bomb at Italian food (Darren is still mad about that meal).  Now the folks at Tokyo are sticking to what they do best, oriental bowls.  You get a choice of Teriaki Chicken, Shrimp, Steak (short ribs) and Fried Fish with rice (fried or white) and steamed veggies all for $5.95 ($7.95 for a combo plate).  Because my Mexican plate was massaged by multiple hands at my last stop, I picked up two bowls and I've got to say Tokyo could have a winner.  The portions are huge (4 pieces of chicken and tons of rice) but what's going to set this place apart from our other oriental establishments is quick carry out.  This place has just opened and has done little to no advertising, but if you're looking for a Tokyo alternative this might be the ticket.  ENJOY!

TILL MY NEXT REVIEW....

REVOLUTIONARY "WHAT IF'S"
Randy Santiago @ Jun 12, 2008 07:46 PM
WHAT IF the church really believed that Jesus was as powerful as Scripture says that He is?

WHAT IF we were not afraid to BEG GOD for ridiculous things, knowing that He is able?

WHAT IF we REALLY believed that Acts 2:41-47 was actually the starting point of all that God wants to do through the church and NOT the watermark?

WHAT IF we really believed that a life dedicated to Christ means that we are completely His…not just on Sunday?

WHAT IF every church became a cheerleader of other churches and not critics?

WHAT IF we really believed the church existed to CHANGE the world and not just to “meet my needs!”

WHAT IF we really believe that teenagers and children are worth the investment and poured resources into them instead of making them sell doughnuts in front of department stores?

WHAT IF we really believed God’s Kingdom should grow through the church instead of being stagnant?

WHAT IF we were willing to lay aside our personal preferences for the sake of reaching those who are far from God?

WHAT IF we refused to participate in slandering and tearing down another person?

WHAT IF we sought to embrace God’s plan for our lives (and churches) instead of trying to get Him to bless ours?
OPEN LETTER TO THE CHURCH HOPPER!
Randy Santiago @ Jun 12, 2008 07:37 PM
Found this letter today, it was written by Kelly Adkins a pastor's wife.  Enjoy!

Dearest Career Church Hopper:

I met you again on Wednesday, the same person smiling at me through a different face, telling me that you've been shopping for churches for months now, and that darn it, you "just can't find one (you) like." The music's too rocky at this one, you said; the preacher too funny at that one. The latest one might make the cut, though: you'd had the pastor and his wife over the previous evening for a little "dinner audition" -- your words, not mine -- and he said things that made you feel good and comfortable, things that you already agree with, so you're thinking about sticking around. At the very least, you could get your teaching from this church and your worship from that one.I'm sure we'll run into each other again, but before we do, I'd like to suggest some things you could perhaps think about before you move on to the next church, as I'm sure you will, whether this weekend or next year:

  • Christ didn't bleed for the Church so you could treat your search for one like an episode of Survivor, deciding who to vote off the island this week.
  • The Church was not commissioned by Christ to meet your needs. You ARE the Church, and you've been commissioned to meet the needs of the world.
  • Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her (Eph 5:25). Quit treating his bride like a Jesus buffet where you can pick and choose what you like, hedging your bets against the pain and sacrifice of making a commitment.
  • Per scripture's instructions to use your gifts in service to the Body of Christ -- and its lack of instruction to search for a church that scratches you where you itch -- you might want to consider what the Church you're visiting needs from you, rather than the other way around.
  • If you only want to hear things you already know and agree with, save your Sundays and talk to yourself in the bathroom mirror.
Sincerely,The Preacher's Wife

SUBSTANCE, SIZZLE & SOUL!
Randy Santiago @ Jun 2, 2008 06:50 PM
Three basic assets of communication:

Substance - the content of WHAT you say (e.g., facts, ideas, formulas, directions, strategies, etc.)

Sizzle - HOW you engage people (e.g., your tone, pauses, volume, resonance, interaction); HOW you craft what you say (e.g., stories, metaphors, analogies)

Soul - WHO you are (e.g., your passions, desires aspirations, and values) and WHY your message is important to you.

Substance accounts for only about 7% of of why people will remember and believe what you say.  Sizzle and Soul.....93%.
